1. Height difference measurement

Place instrument between two leveling rods A and B.	—
Read middle crosshair on rod A as a.	—
Read middle crosshair on rod B as b.	—
Height difference h = a - b.	—

2. Distance measurement

Aim at leveling rod, read spacing e between stadia hairs in cm.	—
Distance from instrument to rod equals e in meters.	—

3. Azimuth angle measurement

Aim vertical stadia hair at target A, record angle α.	—
Rotate telescope to target B, record angle β.	—
Azimuth angle ZAOB = α - β.	—

Circular level vial calibration

Adjust foot screws to center vial bubble.
Rotate instrument 180°; bubble should remain centered.
If not, adjust foot screws and vial screws iteratively until bubble stays centered in all directions.

Horizontal angle calibration

Place instrument between rods A and B (~30-40m apart), record readings a and b.
Move instrument near rod A (~2m), record reading b2.
Calculate b' = a + (a - b).
If b2 ≠ b', adjust reticle using eyepiece reticle adjustment screws until readings match within ±3mm.
