Steam treatment ("Steaming") improves shuttlecock durability by increasing feather moisture, especially effective in dry or cold climates
1. Identify shuttlecock tube inlet and outlet (outlet is the side with the cork head)
2. Place shuttlecocks inside an aluminum foil-lined tube
3. Use a kettle or thermos with boiling water to direct steam into the tube inlet for about 30 seconds until steam exits the outlet
4. Quickly seal both ends to retain moisture
5. Store shuttlecocks cork head up, feathers down for 12 hours before use
Precautions
- Do not steam longer than 1 minute to avoid cork damage
- Avoid steaming in humid seasons to prevent excessive weight and speed
- Use steamed shuttlecocks promptly after opening
- Do not reuse steaming containers for food or drink
BWF (Badminton World Federation) approved for world-level play
